Things they are a changin’

Sounds like an old Bob Dylan song doesn’t it?

Memorial Day has come and gone.  Rolling Thunder in D.C. looked to be a successful ride once more.  Local ceremonies included many patriotic displays and stories.  God Bless America.  God bless our military.  God forgive us for the things we have and are doing wrong, and point us in the right direction.

Do you remember what it was to be a child?  Most of us have some memory of that part of our lives.  I currently have 4 grandchildren, 1 girl, and 3 boys.  They all have my heart.  Sometimes they are so loud in the house, I have to be louder and get their attention and quiet them down.  Papa seems kind of stern at these times.

One grandson was “riding” the arm of the sofa in our house.  He rode it so hard, he pulled it loose from the frame.  Then it had staples hanging out which scratched the inn table next to it and the other kids arms as they were playing.

Same couch, other arm…..the ironing board was there and the iron was off.  These kids love to push buttons.  The iron got turned on and then someone hit the ironing board and it fell on the seat of the couch.  You guessed it, the couch is now branded and looks like an iron.

The little girl was at Auntie’s house playing with her cousins.  She took the dry erase markers and wrote on the wall, the bed, the carpet.   I do love her.

They all love to play in Papa’s back yard.  They love it so much, I can’t keep grass growing.  You see they have this dump truck toy.  Need I say more.  They use their hands, hockey sticks, buckets, cups, whatever they can get their hands on and dig in the sand of the back yard to fill their dump truck. I looked out recently, and one of the boys was making “snow angels” in the sand.  I can’t say too much.  When I was a kid my brother and I played under the shotgun house we lived in, in New Orleans.  The dirt was like powder, the house was about 4 foot off the ground, and it was cool under there.

Sunday they were squirting each other in my daughters back yard with water, even though we told them not to.  No more dry clothes for the one that got wet.

No matter what they do, I love them to pieces.  When I walk in the door and they run past everyone else to hug me, it makes my heart turn a little flip.  I can punish them for what they do in order to try and teach them to do better, but I still love them.

Jesus is like that.  No matter what we do, He still loves us and forgives us.  Sometimes we are punished for doing wrong in and by various people or government agencies.  However, Jesus still loves us, and forgives us.

Have you done something wrong lately and knew when you did it that it was wrong?   It could be that its time to ask forgiveness from Jesus, and get on with your life.  Just because no one saw you and you did not get caught, it does not mean you got away with whatever it was, large or small.  Jesus knows.

Like the sign I saw on the way home the other day on the Baptist church;

No Jesus, No peace

Know Jesus, know peace!

Blessings,

Bubba <”//><
